The rubber is under the least amount of tension at the very bottom near the knot, and at the very top tip where the rubber is darkest. Lightly coat your pin with a bit of vegetable oil or dish soap from the kitchen. Slowly and gently twist the pin through the thick rubber right next to the knot. Push it all the way through the balloon and exit out the dark spot at the opposite tip. The thick, relaxed rubber will stretch around the pin instead of tearing, sealing the air inside and leaving your audience utterly spellbound.
